The Mobile Shop gets going!
July 7th, 2009
We're looking forward to having our own branded van in the near future!
The new Starless River Mobile Shop has been out and about in the last few weeks. Visited so far:
- The YSS at Helwith Bridge at the start of June
- The Wessex on the following weekend
- The SWCC at Penwyllt on June 27th and 28th
- The Orpheus Cave Club on the 4th of July
At each of these clubs, members have been very kind; ensuring parking space, stopping for a chat, helping with stock and often providing tea (and even cake!). A big thank you to all the friends and supporters out there. Cavers are a traditionally companionable bunch, and these visits have proved that it’s still true in all these places.
So far it has been very successful, if a little daunting. There’s a lot of interest in the new kit - the Holloch oversuits especially are flying off the shelves. Nice to see that British cavers are prepared to try something they’ve not always seen before. Hopefully, the shop has also provided a service by being ‘on the spot’ with cowstails, gloves, and wetsocks - the everyday kit that always need replacing when you don’t quite expect it.
It’s still a learning period - what kit people want that isn’t in stock yet, as well as obvious stuff like sourcing a really good make of caving wellington. If you have any good ideas - pop by and have a natter! There’s normally biscuits on the go…
