Kong Duck

Kong Duck micro ascender. Probably the cutest piece of technical metalware, in the world... The Duck is a sprung cam jammer which will work on ropes of diameter 8mm - 13mm. It will also (we think uniquely) grip on tubular or doubled tape slings. At only 70g, and measuring under 6.5cm on its longest axis, it has a place in the gear of all vertical cavers or mountaineers. Very versatile, it can be considered for: 1. a spare jammer in case of loss or rescue; 2. a hand jammer in an ultra lighweight SRT kit, or; 3. as a very compact hauling assist (the design allows a hauling rope to run over the large fixed bollard through which the attachment krab is clipped, making a simple non-pulley jammer)

Petzl Ascension

Petzl Ascension jammer. A handled version of the Basic hand jammer, especially favoured by those wearing thick gloves (mountaineers) or just with big hands... The latest model has a moulded and padded handle (with two attachment holes, both sized for a small krab or maillon; unlike the basic). Heavier than the Basic, but more cpmfortable for some, and giving a longer reach. Also slightly facilitates some pitch head hauls in improvised rescues...but not as much as good training and practice... NB take care if you use this on traverse or sloping lines, the twisting effect if the handle is weighted is significantly greater than with the Basic. Available left or right handed, please state which when ordering.
Petzl Basic ascender
£35.00

Petzl Basic ascender

Petzl Basic ascender. The (non-handled) hand jammer, and integral component of most Frog systems. Generally used as the means of attaching the footloop to the rope The Basic is mechanically the same as the Ascent (handled) jammer - but if you swap from one to the other, consider altering the length of your safety link - the jammer will now be a few inches nearer, or further away, than it has been! Works on most ropes (even muddy or icy) of 8 - 1mm diameter.Simple to attach to, and detach from, ropes - but designed so as to be very difficult to make it come undone by accident.Like the Croll ascender, this product is continually being improved in subtle ways. This year's version runs more smoothly, and opens more efficiently, than the last version. Also used to create a pulley-jammer system in conjunction with two karabiners (at least one oval)and a suitable pulley.
Petzl Croll ascender
£32.00

Petzl Croll ascender

Petzl Croll ascender. The specifically designed chest ascender without which the Frog system works only marginally well. Essentially the centre piece of ascent in SRT as it is carried out in Europe today The Croll is a sprung - cam jammer, gripping well on most ropes of 8 - 13mm diameter. This product is continually being tweaked towards perfection - the latest version having a new safety catch for greater ease of use.
Petzl Pantin LEFT foot ascender
£41.50

Petzl Pantin LEFT foot ascender

Petzl Pantin foot ascender. Jammer suited for the left foot. A very useful accessory for ascending long or awkward pitches. The Pantin is designed to run up the rope particularly smoothly, and to disengage easily when passing rebelays or at pitch heads. Generally held to keep a more upright and efficient prussiking posture - this saves energy, or improves speed; or both! Also very helpful in that it ensures that the Croll chest ascender runs over the rope reliably (using the Pantin on the rope underneath ensures that the rope is held under tension all the time). The latest version has a better cam design, and slightly redesigned body to allow the rope to run even more smoothly. This is, in fact, noticeable in use.
Petzl Pantin RIGHT foot ascender
£41.50

Petzl Pantin RIGHT foot ascender

Petzl Pantin foot ascender. Jammer suited for the right foot.
Petzl Pantin spare strap

Petzl Pantin spare strap

Petzl Pantin spare strap. Simple to fit, kevlar reinforced. Another useful expedition spare.
Petzl Shunt Ascender
£37.00

Petzl Shunt Ascender

Petzl Shunt ascender. Actually, as a lever cam device it can act as both a jammer and a safeguarder of abseiling. Basically it is useful if you are likely to encounter: 1. Very muddy ropes, because the grip is due to weight being placed on the Shunt, which the device transmits to the rope - unlike most sprung cam jammers, which rely primarily on the teeth on the cam gripping the rope. 2. Icy ropes, for the reasons as above. In each case the Shunt is best used as a hand jammer. 3. A fixed rope which safeguards a ladder. One device can function to safeguard ascent and descent. Probably not for everyday use, but a very handy resource to have available if you're digging or planning on meeting icy entrance pitches this winter!
Primary SRT kit
£190.00

Primary SRT kit

A full specification SRT kit suitable for: novices, those whose need is for a simple and uncluttered setup, or simply those looking for an excellent deal! Comprising: MTDE Club harness, AV Spelshoulder chest harness, 10mm cowstails, combined safety / footloop in 8mm cord, Croll and Basic ascenders, Simple descender, two keylock straight gate snaplinks, two Axxis screwgates, steel oval braking snaplink. Held together with a 10mm steel Half Round maillon. All high quality and durable gear, with no corners cut; no need to discard this kit to cope with expedition rigging, longer pitches, or practising rope rescue. Why these components? i. The Club harness is one size to fit all - no need to second guess what sizes a club might need. ii. The Spelshoulder chest harness costs little more than the simple tape strap... but takes a quarter of the time to explain and put on. iii. Simple descender is a very appropriate tool for those starting SRT (braking with both hands, no risk of 'clutch and plummet') - and those who have done a lot, too! iv. All our cowstail snaplinks are keylock - much easier to clip and unclip at rebelays as they eliminate the risk of the closure snagging on ropes. Also as a straight gate, they are even less likely to unclip accidentally from a P hanger, than a bent gate. v. Axxis oval screwgates are also keylocks, and large enough (used as the descender attachment and hand jammer connector)to facilitate descender hard locks, and simple rescue techniques, respectively. vi. Every caver should have a braking krab! If not for their own use, then as an auxiliary connector, to set up pulley jammer systems, or in case of mid rope rescue...
