Cordes Courant Axxis Oval Screwgate
£9.00

Cordes Courant Axxis Oval Screwgate

Cordes Courant Axxis screwgate. Oval screwgate with keylock. Solid karabiner with good gate opening. A good accessory for mid - rope rescue and as a general 'spare' krab, also as an attachment for descender or footloop. Cordes Courant are a French company with a good and growing reputation (their rope is getting better known also) and quality control is all you'd expect of a European manufacturer. Length 110mm, weight 78g, gate opening 21mm Long axis strength 24kn, gate loaded 10kn.
Cordes Courant Moka harness karabiner
£19.00

Cordes Courant Moka harness karabiner

Cordes Courant Moka harness karabiner. Essentially a karabiner to replace the central maillon in an SRT setup. The Moka is an alloy, tri-act karabiner, strong, light, and convenient to use. As with the Omni, the advantages of this over a traditional steel maillon are weight, convenience (easier and quicker to unclip from the harness intentionally) and the reassurance that if any openings unscrew / undo, the karabiner is still as strong as long as the gate reains closed... not so with a maillon. They are dearer, of course! But the Moka is a good price... and you'd not want a single point of attachment that was *too* cheap, would you? I've used one of these since the start of 2010 and find it as easy to use as my normal Omni screwgate. Cordes Courant are making a (limited) range of good hardwear these days, as well as their ropes. Length is 87mm, weight is 54g. Long axis strength is 25kn, gate opening is 10kn
Edelrid Pure snaplink
£6.50

Edelrid Pure snaplink

Edelrid Pure snaplink. Keylock closure, and light weight, makes this karabiner particularly suited for use in cowstails. The cowstail krabs are one of the most important parts of the whole SRT system; so a careful choice in this matter is entirely appropriate...cheap snaplinks in this capacity are a poor investment. At a rebelay, you do not want to be struggling to unclip from the hanger, or rope loop, after the transfer... The gate opening is 18mm, and the crucial measurements are: Long opening strength 27KN, cross loading 7KN, gate open strength 8KN. Weight is 50g.
Faders Lotus HMS screwgate
£9.50

Faders Lotus HMS screwgate

Faders Lotus HMS screwgate. Large pear - shaped alloy screwgate designed for belaying with the Italian, (or HMS or Munter) hitch. The pear shape facilitates the knot reversing in use when changing from taking in to paying out, and vice versa. Suitable for belaying directly, and also for carrying belay devices e.g. Petzl Reverso. Keylock style closure for ease of clipping in and removing the rope, and the screwgate ensures increased safety while belaying or clipping in. Longitudinal axis - 25kn. Gate open - 7kn. Cross loading - 7kn. Weight 88g.
Faders micro screwgate 400 / 8-5
£6.50

Faders micro screwgate 400 / 8-5

Faders micro screwgate 400 / 8-5. A very small, very light, not very strong screwgate WHICH IS NOT PPE. A highly useful means of securing items on to a harness, such as auxiliary bags, spanners, and tackle bags. It is also very well suited to attach a separate footloop to the hand jammer as it is secure, amply strong, yet very low profile and not inclined to snag - all this while still *not* being a maillon, and therefore much more versatile in use. Any other use of this karabiner is probably a LONG way from the manufacturers intentions. Longitudinal axis - 12kn. Gate open - unknown but negligible. Gate aperture 15mm. Weight c. 35g
Faders steel snaplink - braking krab
£6.50

Faders steel snaplink - braking krab

Faders 405-00F steel snaplink - braking karabiner. A heavy steel snaplink which is well suited for use as a braking karabiner. Less aggressive braking than the Raumer Handy, and a less massively strong heatsink than the R400; but significantly lighter and somewhat smaller than the latter - and very affordable. Also useful if you want a more versatile braking krab i.e. it can also hold together the Garma harness when in ascent, be used as part of a Garda hitch, and works better on steel cable traverses than more specialised gear. Long axis - 24kn. Gate open - 6kn.Gate aperture 20mm (note, this is *not* a keylock). Weight 144g.
Half Circle maillon 10mm, steel
£5.75

Half Circle maillon 10mm, steel

Half circle maillon, 10mm, steel. Classic screw closure link for modern caving SRT harnesses. Can be used with all sit harnesses sold by Starless River; only the Petzl Omni may be used in its place with safety. Supplied as PPE.
Kong Guide snaplink
£7.50

Kong Guide snaplink

Kong Guide snaplink karabiner. Alloy keylock with a bent gate to facilitate clipping a rope in with a single swift movement. Designed initially for the lower half of a climbing extender (where the lead climber's rope needs to be put in the snaplink with utter efficiency)they are also useful for deviations, tackle bag haul cords, and attaching diving cylinders to ASM harnesses. They have some significant disadvantages when used as cowstails - take care if you use your cowstails clipped directly into P hangers...
Petzl A'm D karabiner
£13.50

Petzl A'm D karabiner

Petzl A'm D karabiner. Alloy D shaped screwgate karabiner, reassuringly solid and strong (28Kn major axis). Keylock gate. Suitable for descender attachment (large internal space makes a hard lock easy). Also a very useful accessory krab for attaching the footloop to the jammer, and for cowstails if a very strong screwlock is favoured over a snaplink.
Petzl Locker karabiner
£11.00

Petzl Locker karabiner

Petzl Locker karabiner. Alloy, asymmetrical, screwlock karabiner. keylock gate. A compact and lighweight krab with a wide opening, well suited for cowstails if a screwgate is favoured over a snaplink.
Petzl Omni harness karabiner
£22.00

Petzl Omni harness karabiner

Petzl Omni harness karabiner. An alloy screwgate karabiner, essentially replaces a central D shaped maillon in a SRT sit harness. Solid (10mm bar) design with keylock and red safety feature (as with all Petzl screwgates) Quicker to do up and undo than a traditional maillon, light, and perhaps marginally safer in that should the gate undo itself in the course of a very long pitch, or lots of prussiking, the Omni will maintain the integrity of the loop.
Petzl Spirit karabiner
£7.80

Petzl Spirit karabiner

Petzl Spirit karabiner. Alloy, straight gate, snaplink. Keylock gate. As a cowstail karabiner, nothing much better! The Spirit is particularly suited for quick clipping and unclipping, either as part of a quickdraw, or on a cowstail. Reasonable wide gate opening to accept ropes, karabiners, and hangers, in a small and lightweight package. Note that bent gate karabiners can be significantly less safe in the way that they can unclip from a tensioned rope. or bolt. For this reason Starless River does not recommend them for cowstail use, and only the straight gate Spirit is offered. Colours; gold, blue gate.
Raumer Handy karabiner
£15.00

Raumer Handy karabiner

Raumer Handy karabiner. Steel wiregate device, intended for use as a braking karabiner. Very hard wearing braking tool suitable for use with simple, stop descenders etc. Most effective on thin ropes (8mm - 9mm) or those of unusually low friction; perhaps occasionally 'snatchy' on thicker or older ropes. Safety is increased through the high friction, which comes into its own when heavy loads are carried, and also on larger pitches where rebelay failure below the caver may be a risk (see Alpine Caving Techniques)
Raumer R400 karabiner
£10.00

Raumer R400 karabiner

Raumer R400 karabiner. Stainless steel, heavy, wiregate karabiner. Originally intended to rig lower - offs at the top of sport climbs, it also works as a very durable braking karabiner for those who use thicker diameter ropes (10mm+), where the Raumer Handy can be 'too' effective.
Troll Sprint Set of Five
£25.00

Troll Sprint Set of Five

A set of Troll Sprint 9 wiregates - ideal for equipping deviations and expedition quantitites of tackle bags! For the price, a seriously light, strong and compact karabiner. Suitable for deviations, clipping tackle bags to things / people, and general accessory use where a screwgate is unnecessary. You can also use it for climbing, which is what is was designed for! The lock is the old fashioned 'fishing hook' - marginally less easy to unclip than a keylock; but very light, and good at shedding mud in particularly foul places. Size on long axis 95mm, weight 49g, gate opening 22mm. Long axis strength is 27kn, gate loaded 8kn, gate open 8kn.
