Rigging and Bolting

Driver for M8 bolts, caving type. Low profile driver for placing the 8mm self drill anchor. Pivoting handle to facilitate turning the driver while placing the bolt. Replaceable tip may be purchased separately when the thread strips.

MTDE Spikit bolting bag. Possibly the best of its kind, anywhere... Neat, made to fit hammer, driver, cones and anchors, drill bits and not much else. The storage of cones and anchors is very good and makes them genuinely hard to lose.Hang it off the Garma chest harness for a really user - friendly setup.

Raumer Etrier Step. Light, solid steps that can be assembled with 6mm cord (sold separately)to create etrier steps for aid climbing and bolting. Combines well with the Raumer Stick Up to create an effective lightweight scaling system. Should last a caving career - if you don't leave it in a wet plastic bag for months on end, that is - it's tough, not magical!

Raumer M8 bolts. For use with Raumer Minox, Ring and Wing hangers, complete with washer to hold it in place. These are steel. Stainless bolts are also available, although they cost slightly more.

Raumer Rainox anchor. Like a spit (same dimension), but stainless and not self drilling. Advantages? A couple. Number 1: place this, and it should last a lot longer than a spit, and it will also work for subsequent parties using the traditional and widely used 'bolt and hanger' arrangement. Number 2: if you are placing your hangers by drill, this anchor does not require that the holes be finished off by hand to flatten off the end of the hole - just drill, and tap in. Number 3: the wedge and anchor are joined - you can't drop half of the arrangement down the pitch by mistake (although you can still lose the whole lot, if you like) NOTE: to use this, you need also the 'Striker'(article Rm131) to place the bolt. See the relevant description to see why it's needed - but don't worry, this kit is pretty cheap and reusable as well. NOTE AGAIN: you can place this by hand, but you'll want a Rocpec or similar to make the hole. Phil Rowsell - who does a lot of bolting - suggests the Hilti four tip bit for most applications. In this case a 12mm diameter one will be needed.

Raumer Ring hanger, stainless steel. Traditional ring hanger, able to take loads equally well both parallel and perpendicular to the rock. Also made for use without maillons or karabiners as the rope can tie in directly without damage in normal use. The Raumer Ring has the advantage that it takes the standard bolt which can also be used with other Raumer plate hangers. Sold without the bolt to allow the choice of using through bolts instead of spits. Strength 22KN in both alignments.

Raumer Stick Up. Alloy bar used with etriers (sold separately)to facilitate aid climbing. It allows a significant amount of extra progress to be made with each bolt placed, but is small and light enough to transport easily through a cave. Works up to the vertical, not for steeply overhanging ground. Requires two oval karabiners to fit the clipping in points.

Raumer Wing hanger. Stainless steel simple bend hanger for use with M8 bolts. For use with maillons or karabiners this hangers is particularly suitable for traverse lines and rebelays. Used with a karabiner, it helps keep the knot clear of the rock below the bolt placement. Supplied wihout bolts to allow the user to choose between spit placements and through bolts. Strength 22KN (up to 40' from parallel to the rock)
